Shillong (Meghalaya), March 5: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma presented the state budget for 2025-26, outlining a deficit budget of ₹1,970 crore. This ambitious budget is designed to transform Meghalaya into a developed state by 2032, while maintaining a fiscal deficit within the prescribed 3.5% cap.
The budget allocates significant resources to priority areas, including climate action, youth empowerment, and gender-focused initiatives. A substantial sum of ₹5,421 crore has been earmarked for climate-related projects, demonstrating the state’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Youth development has also received a significant boost, with allocations for initiatives promoting education, skill development, and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the budget prioritizes gender equality, with allocations for initiatives promoting women’s empowerment and development.
