Shillong (Meghalaya), June 8: Meghalaya’s Sandeep Sharma struck gold for India at the Kettlebell World Championship 2026 in Chisinau, Moldova, winning the 24kg Snatch Half Marathon from June 4 to 7.
Competing in the 74kg to 87kg+ category, Sharma completed 300 repetitions in 30 minutes, smashing his previous best of 228 set in Italy last year. The Snatch Half Marathon is one of the sport’s toughest events, requiring continuous lifting without setting the kettlebell down for half an hour.
The gold is Sharma’s first World Championship title and his third medal at the event. He won bronze in Hungary in 2023 and Poland in 2024 and finished fourth in Italy in 2025.
With 27 countries in the fray, Sharma’s feat marks a proud moment for Meghalaya and India on the global stage.
