Shillong (Meghalaya), June 4: Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association’s junior team returned with 9 medals — 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronzes — from the Junior Boys’ and Girls’ National Kickboxing Championship held in Khurda, Odisha, from May 31 to June 3, 2026.
The squad was led by coach Daniella I W Mylliemngap, an international kickboxer and 2024 Asian Championship bronze medalist.
Derick Dashankur Nongrum, Class XII student at St. John Bosco HS School, retained the K1 Rules -54 kg national title for the third consecutive year, defeating a Goa opponent in the final. Aldrin Osmond Pariat of May Queen Secondary School won gold in K1 Rules -60 kg, beating Himachal Pradesh, while Darren Ervin Blah of Pearly Dew HS School took gold in Full Contact -51 kg against Odisha.
Nathania Mylliem Umlong, Class VIII of Govt UP School Mawlai Nongkwar, secured silver on debut in Low Kick -48 kg. Misariio Nongdhar and Sumarlang Kharumnuid, both from St. Francis De Sales, Laitkor, won silver in Full Contact -45 kg and K1 Rules -57 kg after losing finals to Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Bronze went to Aedriel Gordon Ranee of St. John Bosco in K1 Rules -48 kg, Merapkerlang Lyngwa of Seven Set Annexe in Full Contact -63 kg, and Hamebuhnam Pathaw of Phudmuri Presbyterian HS in Full Contact -45 kg.
With this haul, MSKA’s tally since August 2017 rises to 321 medals — 104 gold, 102 silver and 115 bronzes — including 67 international medals and 9 for NEHU at the All India Inter University Games since 2019. The championship followed WAKO rules and was organized under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports guidelines.
