Shillong (Meghalaya), June 5: Nongkseh SSCC lifted their first Meghalaya State League title on June 5, coming from behind to beat Langsning FC 2-1 in the MSL 5 final at SSA Stadium.
An own goal by Banpynkhrawnam Nongkhlaw in first-half stoppage time put Nongkseh down, but captain Hardy Cliff Nongbri levelled in the 61st minute and substitute Shano Tariang struck in the 68th to seal the win.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma handed Nongkseh the trophy and Rs 8 lakh, while Langsning took home Rs 5 lakh, the biggest runners-up prize in MSL history. Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong and Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla were also present as tickets sold out hours before kickoff.
Kitboklang Pale was named Player of the Final, Guidle Syiemlieh Best Goalkeeper, Nelson Rymbai of Langsning Top Scorer with 23 goals, and Hardy Cliff Nongbri Player of the Tournament.
The fifth edition featured 33 teams, eight venues and 139 matches. Run by the Meghalaya Football Association during its Golden Jubilee year, it met AIFF standards and will send Nongkseh to I-League 3.
