New Delhi, June 3: At least 21 people died and 15 others sustained serious injury when a hotel caught fire in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Malvyanagar area in South Delhi at around 8 in the morning a cylinder explosion is believed to be the source of the shocking incident where over 45 people were rescued by the local residents and NDRF and SDRF personnel. But the authority has yet to formally ascertain the reason. Most of the deceased are said to be the hotel workers and foreign guests.
Within 30 minute the fire spread to another hotel even after the deployment of dozens of fire tenders to bring the situation under control. The injured were rushed to the nearest Max Hospital.
The fire tenders took nearly 5 hours to bring the situation under control during which local residents and civil authorities rescued 45 people and some of them jumped from the floor to escape the fire.
According to information, 10 Delhi Police personnel, engaged in the rescue and relief operations also sustained burn injuries were rushed to the hospital. They include 5 are Head Constables, and 5 are Constables.
These personnel were the first to enter the premises of the burning building.
The Delhi Police have registered a case under the culpable homicide section and other relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) in the incident.
Additionally, according to sources, the hotel owner has been identified as one Lokesh Bajaj. The property has partners are involved in the hotel’s operations, and they also own several other hotels and guest houses across the city.
The police and other investigative agencies are examining aspects related to the hotel’s ownership, operations, and safety standards.
