Shillong (Meghalaya), May 22: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma launched the German Language Training Programme for Overseas Placement at the Shillong Tech Park on Thursday. The program, supported by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), aims to train and place qualified healthcare professionals from the state in Germany.
The program is designed to equip nurses and healthcare professionals with the necessary language skills to work in Germany. The six-month intensive training program will take participants up to the B2 level of German language proficiency, followed by interviews, visa procedures, and final placement in reputed German healthcare institutions.
Germany is facing a severe shortage of healthcare professionals, with a projected need for 7 million additional skilled workers by 2035. This program offers Meghalaya’s nurses and healthcare professionals a chance to work in Germany, enhancing their careers and contributing to the state’s economic growth.
The Chief Minister highlighted the potential economic benefits of this initiative, stating that if even 30,000 professionals are sent abroad, the remittances could amount to ₹250 crores a month, or ₹3000 crores a year. The state government will provide financial aid for initial training and ensure the safety and guidance of candidates.
The program is a collaboration between the Meghalaya government, People to Help Germany, and IndieTalent, with the German Consulate Kolkata expressing optimism about the partnership. This initiative is part of the state’s efforts to leverage its young population to meet global demands for skilled workers, following successful deployments to Japan and Singapore.
