Shillong, Aug 27: Shillong Lajong ended Nongkseh’s unbeaten run in SSA competitions dating back to November 2024 with a 1-0 win in the Shillong Premier League at SSA Stadium this evening.
The decisive moment came in the 55th minute when Lalmuansanga converted from the spot after a handball inside the box. He sent Nongkseh keeper Daraphun Talang the wrong side of his dive to the left.
It was a second half to forget for Nongkseh, who picked up bookings for Hamedamanbha Wahlang and Arlangky Nongsiej for rash fouls.
Nongkseh had threatened early. In the 17th minute, Dawanchwa Challam forced a fumble from Lajong keeper Banshanskhem Kharsyntiew, but Shano Tariang could not capitalise. Banshanskhem otherwise impressed, keeping Lajong’s clean sheet intact for three straight rounds.
Lajong almost struck on the counter in the 36th minute, but Daraphun beat Ricky Kharkongor to a long ball. Despite looking compact, Nongkseh lacked finish, and chasing the game left them exposed.
Lajong spurned chances, with Deibormame Tongper missing from close range and Rimankhraw Kharumnuid setting up Deibor on the right in the 82nd minute, denied only by last-ditch defending.
With seven points each after three rounds, Mawlai top the table on goal difference +6, ahead of Meghalaya Police +3 and Lajong +2.
Tomorrow, Laitkor, eighth on three points, face defending champions Langsning, fourth on six points, at 3:40 pm
