Shillong (Meghalaya), April 16: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to repair the damaged highways in the state, particularly the Jowai-Ratacherra project road of National Highway-6 (NH-6) spanning 102.255 km.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice I.P. Mukerji and Justice W. Diengdoh was informed by Learned Amicus Curiae that issues like large potholes and exposed rods from small bridges on the highways around Umkiang Forest area and Dona Road still persist.
The court was assured by S. Sengupta, representing NHAI, that the problems would be redressed within two months. The court adjourned the PIL till June 18, 2025, and directed NHAI to file a completion report by then.
The court’s directive aims to ensure timely completion of infrastructure projects and improve the condition of highways in the state.
