New Delhi Oct 11: In a major setback to the Centre in its effort to the prevent the ongoing anti CEC protest in Delhi, the Supreme Court on Sunday asked the authorities to ensure normal functioning of Metro and railway services, uninterrupted internet connectivity.
The country’s top court further asked the authorities to ensure free movement of the people and that the lawyers should be allowed to discharge their professional duties.
In a special hearing of a plea on Sunday, a bench of Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana directed asked the authorities to ensure that Metro and railway services do not remain disrupted. Further, the authorities have been asked to review the requirement of barricades on the street in the name of maintaining law and order.
It also asked the authorities to ensure that the internet services remain undisturbed.
Before that SG Mehta, the Centre’s second-highest law officer, assured the apex court that lawyers would not be obstructed in their work.
The Supreme Court also sought details of advisories issued by the railway authorities and directed the Union government to file its response to the contempt petitions, along with the compliance report by the next 2 days.
