Shillong(Meghalaya), June 13: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma launched the District Nutrition Challenge, a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving nutrition indicators across the state. The program focuses on promoting exclusive breastfeeding, reducing anemia, and making local food solutions more accessible through community-based programs.
The District Nutrition Challenge assigns specific improvement targets to each district, with the Human Development Council coordinating monitoring and evaluation to ensure accountability and track progress toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Speaking at the launch event, CM Sangma emphasized the importance of working together with a broader vision and purpose for sustainable and inclusive human development. “We often work tirelessly day and night, but without a clear goal, we end up achieving very little. Setting defined, measurable goals is crucial,” he said.
The initiative aims to improve the lives of mothers and children, particularly in rural areas, by addressing malnutrition and promoting healthy practices. The program’s success will depend on the collective efforts of government departments, communities, and stakeholders working together towards a common goal.
