Khanapara(Meghalaya) April 17 : In a groundbreaking discovery, a team of scientists led by Dr. Dipankar Dutta from the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has identified a new species of frog in the Garbhanga Reserve Forest in Western Assam and the Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya.
The species, named Leptobrachium aryatium, exhibits unique morphological characteristics that distinguish it from other known species.
Published in the internationally renowned journal Zootaxa, the discovery marks a significant milestone in biodiversity research in Northeast India. The research team, comprising Dr. Dipankar Dutta, Dr. Jayaditya Purkayastha, Dr. Jayanta Gogoi, and Dr. Saibal Sengupta, has shed new light on the region’s rich amphibian diversity and highlighted the importance of continued conservation efforts.
This remarkable finding is set to open new avenues for scientific exploration and research in the region.
