Shillong (Meghalaya), May 12: The State government has stepped up efforts to address the growing concerns of students regarding the upcoming Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG). Education Minister Rakkam Sangma has formally requested the National Testing Agency (NTA) to defer the exam dates, citing logistical challenges faced by students in the state.
The minister’s appeal comes after the state government identified over 200 additional computer nodes to support the smooth conduct of CUET-UG 2025 within Meghalaya. This move is seen as a proactive step to ensure that students can take the exam without undue hardship.
The controversy surrounding the allocation of exam centers outside Meghalaya had sparked widespread discontent among students. Many had been allocated centers in distant locations, including Guwahati, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Kolkata, resulting in significant travel and accommodation costs.
Following the Chief Minister’s intervention, the NTA has relocated most exam centers from Guwahati to Shillong, providing some relief to students. Despite this development, the state government remains committed to seeking a deferment of the exam dates to better accommodate students.
The NTA is expected to review the situation and make a decision on the state’s request. With the exam scheduled between May 13 and June 3, 2025, students and parents are eagerly awaiting a resolution to the crisis.
