Shillong, Aug 24: The Assam-Meghalaya taxi row echoed loud inside the Meghalaya Assembly today.
On the opening day of the five-day session that will end on August 28, both Treasury and Opposition benches voiced grave concern over the violence that broke out after the KSU rally in Shillong on August 19.
In a suo-motu statement, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma promised tough action, saying the government has taken serious note of the incident and will not spare those responsible.
He informed the House that 31 vehicles were attacked, 18 people were injured and 15 FIRs have been registered. A Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe the violence.
Sangma said Meghalaya is working closely with Assam to restore normalcy and ensure free movement of vehicles and essential commodities.
Leader of Opposition Dr Mukul Sangma demanded strict action against all non-government actors behind the attack.
