Shillong (Meghalaya), June 24: The Meghalaya government has taken a significant step towards enhancing the state’s sports ecosystem by sanctioning ₹39.17 crore to 26 state sports associations to support athlete training and preparation for the 39th National Games in 2027.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the state’s commitment to transforming its sports ecosystem, highlighting the incredible momentum gained in the sports sector with contributions from associations, officials, leaders, and sportspersons. The grant is part of a broader effort by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs to motivate and empower athletes.
The government has also invested heavily in sports infrastructure development, including the construction of nearly 50 artificial turfs across the state and a 40,000-capacity football stadium at Mawkhanu worth ₹732 crore. These initiatives aim to make Meghalaya a hub for sports excellence and provide a world-class platform for athletes to showcase their talent.
