Shillong (Meghalaya), May 21: The Meghalaya High Court has granted the petitioner a last chance to file an affidavit in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) case related to street vending, traffic regulation, and parking management in Shillong.
The PIL aims to identify street vending areas, relocate vendors, regulate traffic, allocate parking spaces, and clear road areas for free movement of vehicles.
The court had previously directed the government to submit a report on actions taken to implement its orders. Although the petitioner was given an opportunity to file a response to the report, they failed to do so within the given timeframe. However, the court has now extended the time to file the affidavit till June 2, 2025, allowing the petitioner to highlight any lacuna in the government’s report.
The case will be listed for further hearing on June 12, 2025. The court’s decision was delivered on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, by a division bench comprising Chief Justice I.P. Mukerji and Judge W. Diengdoh.
