New Delhi, Mar 15: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has been reelected unopposed as the National President of the National People’s Party (NPP) for the 2025-2028 tenure. The organizational election was held on Saturday March 15, at the Constitutional Club of India here.
Sangma’s reelection marks a significant milestone for the party, which has been steadily growing its presence in the northeastern states. Alongside Sangma’s reelection, Paknga Bage was elected unopposed as the General Secretary (Organisation), while Dr. Mehtab Agitok Sangma was reelected unopposed as the National Treasurer.
During the meeting, Meghalaya State President Prestone Tynsong and Manipur State President Joy Kumar Singh proposed the appointment of a National Working President within the party. They have recommended outgoing General Secretary (Organisation) James K. Sangma for the position.
Sangma, in his address, announced that the National Committee for the 2025-2028 term will be announced shortly. With his reelection, Sangma is expected to strengthen the party’s presence in the region and prepare for upcoming elections.
This development is seen as a significant boost to the NPP’s prospects in the northeastern states, where the party has been making steady gains. With Sangma at the helm, the party is expected to consolidate its position and emerge as a major force in regional politics.
