Shillong, Aug 10: A story that began with worry in Muktapur has ended with relief and embraces. Kwis Sumer, who went missing on July 15 after travelling to Karnataka for work, is safely back in Meghalaya following a relentless interstate search.
The case landed on the Government’s desk on 27 July through a formal memorandum. CM Conrad K. Sangma moved instantly, reaching out to Karnataka and setting the machinery in motion. What followed was a tight coordination between Meghalaya Police and Karnataka Police to trace every lead.
Leading the charge from Meghalaya was Lovish Garg, IPS, accompanied by clan representatives. In Bengaluru, they joined forces with Karnataka’s top brass — DGP & IGP, DIG(A) Iada Martin Marbaniang, IPS, and district SPs — piecing together Sumer’s last movements through technical inputs and ground work.
The turning point came from an unexpected place: a social media message. With the help of Kavi Kumar, who had given Sumer shelter and support in Karnataka, contact was re-established with the family. Acting on that clue, both police teams zeroed in and located him safe at Tiptur in Tumkur district. From there, arrangements were made for his swift return.
Welcomed by family and clan members in Shillong on Monday, Sumer will now head home to Muktapur in West Jaiñtia Hills.
“I am grateful to the Chief Minister for bringing me back,” Sumer said. The family echoed the same gratitude.
Conrad K. Sangma said, “With the Karnataka Police, especially Bengaluru Police, and the dedication of Meghalaya Police and all stakeholders, we found him. He is safely back in our State. My sincere thanks to everyone who made this possible.”
The Chief Minister’s Office also acknowledged Karnataka State Police for its swift cooperation, the Meghalaya Police team for its determination, civil society groups for their support, Dr. D. Rockyer L. Nonglait for bridging the first contact, and Kavi Kumar for his compassion.
Sumer’s safe return stands as a clear example of what timely action, interstate teamwork, and community spirit can achieve.
