Shillong, Aug 11: The “land of guitars” just got louder. Polish guitar sensation Marcin Patrzałek touched down in Shillong today, ahead of his headline show tomorrow night at Lariti Performing Centre, Mawkasiang — the Meghalaya stop of his _Marcin, Art of Guitar Tour 2026_.
The moment he arrived; the hills had him hooked. “Even on the drive here, just from the airport, I just couldn’t stop taking videos on my phone through the window, just because of the nature, how exotic it is for me. So, I kind of feel like I’m in a different world right now,” Marcin said, still buzzing from his first glimpse of Meghalaya.
He’s known worldwide for turning a guitar into a drum, orchestra and synth all at once — fingerstyle meets percussion, layered with electronic and cinematic production. Tomorrow, Shillong gets that sound live.
But the night is not just about one global name. In true Meghalaya spirit, the stage will open for homegrown talent. CM-MGMP’s Achiever of the Month – Music Edition Chegim Durama from Garo Hills will share the spotlight with Leo Boys from Khasi Hills and Larger Than 90 from Jaintia Hills. More MGMP artists will also perform, putting the state’s grassroots music ecosystem front and center.
Ahead of the concert, Marcin will jam and run workshops with students, buskers and emerging musicians under the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme. He called CM-MGMP a rare, organic space where young artists can learn, collaborate and find their voice.
The visit is backed by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the Department of Tourism, and CM-MGMP — a push to plug Meghalaya’s music scene directly into the global circuit. CM-MGMP has already been creating livelihoods by placing local musicians at busking spots across tourist destinations, letting them earn while adding to the state’s cultural vibe.
For Meghalaya, this is bigger than one concert. It’s about building a real touring market in India over the next decade — one that brings world-class artists here and sends local talent out. Shillong, already famous as the “abode of clouds” and the “land of guitars,” is staking its claim as a must-play city for international music.
Tomorrow at Lariti, expect an evening where global virtuosity meets Meghalaya’s musical soul.
