Imphal, Oct 11 l: A fresh orgy of violence keeps Manipur on the boil. This time it confines to only 3 hills districts where 9 people were killed and a few others have sustained injury since Friday night.
The situation Kamjong, Ukhrul, and Kangpokpi — remained tense on Sunday following a fresh round of ethnic clashes between Naga and Kuki communities.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh appealed for peace and restraint and directed the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to bring the situation under control.
Security forces have been patrolling in the sensitive areas to prevent further escalation.
A 42-year-old woman was killed in Chassad village in Kamjong district on Friday night. Although the district has a predominantly Naga population, Chassad is a Kuki-majority village.
Kuki-Zo organisations held security forces and a Naga armed group responsible for the woman’s death.
On the other hand, militants opened fire in Ningchou village, a Tangkhul Naga settlement near the India-Myanmar border in Kamjong district, killing two people, identified as 35-year-old Ngachanso Ningshen and 48-year-old Leishishan Leishadang.
