Ampati(Meghalaya), Sep 14: Various school teachers and residents of South West Garo Hills (SWGH) have written to the Director of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) over allegations of illegal appointment of teachers in various schools of the district.
The teachers stated that through an RTI reply revealed various anomalies that took place including the appointment of over age teachers and those that did not qualify for their position.
The teachers in their complaint named one Raju Seal, who despite having MIL as his alternative subject, was recruited to a job in a Bengali Medium School. The appointment was allegedly made by the SDSEO of SWGH at the Bottola Government LP School in Mahendraganj, which is apparently a Bengali medium school.
Further they added that one Biswajit Dey, who is aged 33 years and was a private school teacher was appointed at the Mahendraganj Government Lower Primary School. Similarly Uday Mahanta was also appointed at an assistant teacher in a government school. Mahanta was allegedly a part of the merit list despite being over age.
Another allegation by the complainants was the fact that not only was there overage candidates and unqualified ones appointed, but even residents from Assam were given a teaching post in the district. The case related to one Zekis Hussain from the state of Assam who was appointed to the Bildoba Government Lower Primary School.
The complainants alleged that the entire illegal acts of appointment were done knowingly by the SDSEO of SWGH and sought an inquiry into the matter.
“The appointments are arbitrary and illegal in nature and done in conduit with the SDSEO, who despite knowing that the appointments were illegal, was the one involved in such malpractices. We request you to kindly invoke the illegal appointments made by the SDSEO and accommodate the eligible candidates as per merit,” said the teachers.
