Shillong, Oct 8: Meghalaya has tied up with Bharti Airtel Foundation to provide free, AI-enabled professional training to its teachers.
The Meghalaya Teacher Training Academy (MTTA) and the Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Main Secretariat in Shillong to roll out ‘TheTeacherApp’ across the state. The ceremony was chaired by Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui.
The app will offer government teachers self-paced courses, expert-led webinars, AI-powered tools for lesson planning and assessments, question banks, classroom resources and a peer-learning platform called Teachers’ Lounge.
The platform, aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, is already used by over 3.25 lakh teachers in 36 States and UTs in partnership with NITI Aayog.
Speaking on the occasion, Rymbui said continuous learning for teachers is key to improving quality of education and the app will provide accessible, relevant and need-based resources.
Bharti Airtel Foundation COO Binu Nair said the initiative will support teachers with practical classroom resources and digital tools to enhance student learning outcomes.
The MoU was signed in presence of Commissioner & Secretary Education Vijay Kumar Mantri, MTTA Director Jacqueline Una Kharpuri, Foundation Regional Head Kumar Ashutosh and senior education department officials.
