Shillong, Oct 8: Meghalaya’s local products are going global.
The 2nd International Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet (RBSM 2.0) kicked off at the State Convention Centre, Shillong on Thursday, connecting 395 local MSMEs with 32 buyers from USA, UK, Canada, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and other countries.
Inaugurating the two-day meet, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said RBSM is a new door for local entrepreneurs. He said Meghalaya, with its 440-km border with Bangladesh, is a gateway to South and Southeast Asia. The first edition in February had sealed 40 MoUs worth Rs 3 crore.
“Our vision is not only to produce more, but to market better and brand better,” Dhar said.
Commissioner & Secretary Cyril Diengdoh said Meghalaya’s products carry a story and cultural value that the world now wants.
FIEO’s Neha Mehra said global demand for organic and sustainable products favours Meghalaya.
Organised under the Centre’s RAMP scheme by the Commerce & Industries Department and FIEO, the meet is expected to open doors for Meghalaya’s 98,000 MSMEs.
The event also features an exhibition, food court and live music.
