Shillong (Meghalaya), May 7: North-Eastern Hill University on Wednesday plugged into the country’s digital push, hosting the “Digital India Awareness University Workshops” with the National e-Governance Division to drive digital empowerment across campus administration and classrooms.
Held at the Multi-use Convention Hall, the Digital India Talk Show cum Interactive Session drew faculty, officers, staff, researchers and students for technical briefings on DigiLocker, APAAR ID, UMANG, Academic Bank of Credits, National Academic Depository, cybersecurity, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 and API Setu.
Opening the session, NeGD Director Sunil Jain said Digital Public Infrastructure is key to “inclusive governance, transparent service delivery, and seamless citizen access.”
Chief Guest Prof. Sumarbin Umdor recalled the pre-digital gap between metros and Shillong. “With the advent of the digital wave, resources and information are now available simultaneously to everyone, irrespective of geographical location,” he said. Umdor added that the workshop would help the NEHU community “understand the immense potential of digital resources and learn how to effectively access and utilize them.”
Welcoming the gathering, Prof. L. J. Singh said digital empowerment is “no longer optional but essential” for education and administration. He stressed the tools promote “accessibility, transparency, efficiency, and inclusion.”
Prof. Ibadani Syiem said today’s students are “highly privileged” compared to earlier generations due to online services, adding that India’s digital progress will “address existing challenges and strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure.”
Resource persons from NeGD included Sunil Jain, Ajeet Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Rituparna Nath and Varun Dhingra, who detailed platforms and safeguards underpinning the National Education Policy framework.
