Shillong (Meghalaya), May 7: A’chik SCO Rongjeng bowed out of the 5th Meghalaya State League in style Wednesday, edging Balmanduri FC 3-2 in a Group G thriller at Williamnagar after trailing 2-0 at halftime.
Chichang M Momin’s brace put Balmanduri ahead in the 27th and 33rd minutes. But ASCOR stormed back after the breakthrough captain Sensial Sangma in the 54th, Klubarth M Sangma in the 78th, and Keri G Momin’s late winner in the 88th.
The win sealed third place for ASCOR with four wins and four losses from eight games. Keri ends on 13 goals, currently the league’s second-highest scorer. Balmanduri, out of contention, still face group leaders Janepih YSCA in two days.
In Group E at Wahiajer, Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC beat Lamyrsiang SCC 3-0. Both sides had already been locked at third and fourth before kickoff.
Tomorrow brings two 3 pm fixtures: Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC meet Shillong Lajong FC in Wahiajer with already through to the pre-quarterfinals, while Lawbah SC take on Mishon SSCC in Mairang. The Group F clash, postponed from April 27, could still flip the table. Mishon holds second place, but Lawbah need a big margin win to snatch it.
