Shillong,(Meghalaya),Jan 9: Attacks by Bangladeshi dacoits on Indian villagers along the Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya continues wherein one BSF jawan and a civilian were injured in one such brutal attack at Amdoh village under Rongtila border outpost near Rongkum.

The place of occurrence is between Dawki and Muktapur which is very close with Bangladesh. Dawki is about 82 km from Shillong.

This was the third incident within a week. The first and second attacks occurred on January 3 and 4.

The injured Indian villager, P Bareh of Amdoh village and the injured BSF jawan Havaldar Shivshankar Dey were taken to separate health centres for treatment.

An official in the BSF Meghalaya frontier headquarters at Mawpat in Shillong confirmed the attacks carried out by the Bangladeshi criminals.

According to the BSF, after, attacking the BSF personnel at Rongtila who were patrolling the area at around 12:30 am today, the robbers entered Amdoh village near the Indo-Bangla border and attacked a villager.

BSF officials said that in retaliation, the villager fired on the robbers with his country made rifle and injured one of the robbers before he was overpowered by the gang of around 15 robbers.

“After overpowering him, the robbers then snatched valuables and also the country made rifle from the villager’s house,” BSF officials said.

“Since it was foggy one of our boys was overpowered by the robbers and attacked critically with a machete,” the BSF official informed.

A senior BSF official was rushed to the area and the BSF has called a flag meeting with its counterpart the Border Guards Bangladesh. The flag meeting was held at Rongtilla, Dawki and the BSF has sought its counterpart’s assistance to nab the culprits.

“One of the injured robbers have been identified in a hospital by the BGB and has been arrested,” the BSF official said.

The 48 BGB battalion was led by Lt Col Jamil and the 30 BSF battalion was led by commandant Dinesh Singh.
During this flag meeting, the BSF demanded strong action against the Bangladeshi criminals.

These attacks which occurred today are fresh on the heels of attacks by Bangladeshi robbers on Indian villagers in the same area along the Dawki-Nongtalang road on January 3 and 4.

Five villagers were injured in that those incidents where the attackers vandalised the cars of the injured villagers who returned from a marriage party and snatched their valuables after which they fled across the international border to Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the Jaintia Students’ Union met the Home Minister James Sangma here and demanded immediate action. They demanded that adequate security should be provided to the villagers adjoining the Indo-Bangla border in the area.

“We are condemning the police department and the BSF, for they are often found ineffective and at best, irregular to tackle this issue at this point of time. We demand the government to increase the manpower or armed policemen and BSF personnel at the Dawki police station and Muktapur,” JSU spokesperson Treibor Suchen said.

The students’ body also demanded that an anti dacoity camp be set up in the area to put an end to such brazen attacks by the Bangladeshis.

In a similar incident on January 4, two persons were injured after they were attacked by a group of suspected Bangladeshi criminals near Dawki.

The incident took place at around 9 pm near Lad Darrang on the Dawki-Amlarem road.
