Tura(Meghalaya),Jan 9 : Prior to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) restarting its session today as directed by the High Court, one MDC who is apparently with the Congress, was allegedly ‘kidnapped’ by a group of MDCs from the National People’s Party (NPP).
The GHADC has seen tremendous drama since the last session when a no confidence motion that was due was stopped after the NPP staged a walkout just prior to the vote when it became apparent that the NPP led coalition would have lost the vote of confidence.
The matter was then taken to the High Court which ruled for the continuation of the session as well as the no confidence motion. Ever since then, the two camps have looking at keeping their flock together and preventing MDCs from being poached by rivals.
As per the FIR filed by the wife of Boston Marak, two MDCs from NPP, MLA cum MDC, Benedict Marak and Sengnal Sangma, the Wagesik MDC, came to their house on Wednesday and took her husband from their house in Asibra in Tura, to an unknown location.
Boston’s wife, Dikchelisa M Sangma filed the FIR on the incident at the Araimile Beathouse in Tura against the two MDCs.
As per the FIR, the two leaders, along with a group of their supporters, came to the house and forcefully took Boston. Attempts to reach him since then have proved futile with the last attempt to call him being made on Thursday morning.
“Till the filing of this FIR, I have not been able to contact my husband on his number since he was kidnapped. I last spoke to him at 12:40 pm this afternoon where he informed me that he was in Shillong. He called me from one number and though he was able to talk to me, he was not allowed to speak properly,” said Boston’s wife.
She added that should something happen to her husband, the two leaders, Sengnal and Benedict are to be held responsible.
Confirming the receipt of the complaint, the Superintendent of Police of West Garo Hills district, Dr MGR Kumar said, “We are verifying whether the act is cognizable or not. We will act after verifying exactly what happened as the case is sensitive.”
