Tura (Meghalaya), Aug 23 : The first causality due to Covid -19 in West Garo Hills was reported from Tura Civil Hospital today .
With this the death toll in the state has gone up to 8 .
According to sources , the 84 -year old Covid patient hailing from Tikrikilla succumbed to his infections at the Tura Civil Hospital late last night .
The patient was co morbid .
He was tested Covid positive during random sampling in Tikrikilla and was admitted in Tura Civil Hospital Covid Ward on Aug 18 .

Soon after the news of the death spread some residents of Tura blocked the road to the cremation ground fearing that the last rites would be performed there .
However , the dead body was finally taken to his hometown this afternoon .
