Resubelpara(Meghalaya), April 27: In a dramatic 30-minute operation, North Garo Hills police rescued a businessman and nabbed three abductors who had waylaid him on the Bolsong-Agia road and robbed him of Rs 30,000 on Saturday, April 25.
Police swung into action around 3:00 pm after villagers in Bolsong tipped off Bajengdoba Police Station that unidentified men were forcing a trader into a silver Ertiga tourist vehicle. A checkpoint was quickly set up at Mansinggre, and by 3:30 pm officers intercepted the car with registration ML-08-K-5869 along with the victim’s motorcycle being ridden by one of the accused. The businessman was found inside the vehicle and freed unharmed.
Initial probe found that the trio blocked the trader on the Bolsong-Agia road, snatched his phone and bike keys, demanded his trading license, and looted Rs 30,000 before bundling him into their car. One accused rode the victim’s motorcycle alongside while the other two guarded him in the Ertiga. The trader’s shouts for help alerted locals who called police immediately.
The accused were identified as Tenggra Ch. Marak alias Togan, 36, of South Garo Hills, Dipon D. Sangma, 38, and Lovingson R. Marak, 33, both of West Garo Hills. During questioning, Marak claimed links to an NGO called United Garo People’s Forum. A case has been registered at Bajengdoba under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita covering abduction, robbery, and extortion.
North Garo Hills police said swift public alert and rapid response foiled the crime, reiterating that no criminal act will be tolerated, including those done under the cover of NGOs.
