Shillong, July 1: Synod College marked its 61st Foundation Day Wednesday with a nod to scholarship, releasing two books that trace Meghalaya’s policy shifts and its journey through the Emergency years.
MLA Adelbert Nongrum, the Chief Guest, and Arts and Culture Director Camelia Doreen Lyngwa, MCS, the Guest of Honour, unveiled “Look South Policy vis-à-vis Meghalaya”, edited by Dr. David Arnold Kharchandy and Dr. Ibalari Phylla Khongjoh, and “Shadows of 1975: The Emergency and Meghalaya’s Journey as a Young State”, edited by Dr. Kharchandy. The launch took place before faculty, students, and well-wishers at the College Auditorium.
The celebration highlighted Synod College’s six-decade role in higher education, character formation, and public service in Meghalaya. Besides the book release, the programme felicitated student achievers, scholarship awardees, and teachers who completed 25 years at the institution.
Both guests praised the college’s academic legacy and urged it to keep driving research and service. The new titles signal the college’s growing focus on regional issues and historical inquiry.
