Shillong (Meghalaya), May 15: Eastern West Khasi Hills celebrated Certification Day with 671 youth receiving training certificates, job letters, and start-up support under Skills Meghalaya.
Held at Tirot Sing Memorial Hall, Pyndengumiong, the MSSDS event saw Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh and DC Anita Kharpor, IAS, hand over certificates across 18 trades for 2025–26. ADC V.A. Hyniewta distributed the training completion certificates.
Seven trainees landed jobs at Barbeque Nation in F&B, kitchen operations, and food production. Three were placed locally at Lapynhun Resort, Sohiong. More offer letters were issued across other sectors.
The programme pushed entrepreneurship too. Frankie War received Rs 63,200 under the PRIME Seed Scheme to launch his venture. Fashion designer trainee Phibakordor Marbaniang got a Rs 1.5 lakh KCC loan cheque to scale up. Differently abled trainees from NeIPS were given start-up toolkits.
“The major challenge our youth face is employment. Government is working from the grassroots to find solutions,” Lyngdoh said, urging youth to use the training and face challenges confidently.
DC Kharpor praised global and out-of-state placements secured this year. “This shows our youth can take up opportunities beyond Meghalaya,” she said, congratulating trainees on becoming self-reliant.
Training providers helped candidates access loans and enterprise support, linking skills directly to livelihoods. Officials said the drive reflects the state’s push to turn grassroots talent into sustainable jobs and inclusive growth.
