Imphal, Nov 4: Four militants were killed and another sustained injury in a fierce encounter between rival groups in the Noney district of Manipur on Wednesday.
The heavy exchange of fire broke out early in the morning between the two rival camps who belong to the Naga community namely Zeliangrong United Front-Jenchui (ZUF-J) and the Zeliangrong United Front-Kamson (ZUF-K) at Taodaijang village.
The gunfight continued for several hours, leaving three cadres of the ZUF-J and one cadre of the ZUF-K dead.
The local residents recovered the bodies as they reached the spot after the encounter. They also used a public address system to appeal to the cadres to stop firing.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh asked senior security officials to identify active armed groups, excluding those engaged in peace talks with the state government, suspected to be involved in the recent incidents of violence in the state.
