Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 12: In a nail-biting final, Jakrem SC emerged victorious in the Meghalaya Women’s State League 2025, overcoming Na Rympei Football Academy 2-1 at the SSA Stadium. Na Rympei took the lead through Pynhun Shulet’s strike in the 14th minute, but Jakrem equalized through an own goal in the 58th minute and sealed the win with Iaphisha Marbaniang’s goal in the 72nd minute.
The victory marked a historic moment for Jakrem SC, as they became the first-ever champions of the Meghalaya Women’s State League. The league, a pioneering initiative of the Meghalaya Football Association, aimed to uplift the standard of women’s football in the state.
The final match was attended by Principal Secretary Frederick Roy Kharkongor, MFA President Hamletson Dohling, and other dignitaries. Iaphisha Marbaniang was named Player of the Final, while her teammate Sunalinda Iawren was adjudged Player of the Tournament. Ionaris Khongsit of Mawlum Tyrsad SC won the Golden Glove award, and Iaraplang Nongrum of Laitkor SC claimed the Golden Boot award.
Jakrem SC received a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh as champions, while Na Rympei took home Rs 1 lakh as runners-up. The success of the inaugural season sets a high standard for future editions, and the league is expected to play a significant role in promoting women’s football in Meghalaya.
