Guwahati (Assam), July 3: The Assam Police’s Crime Branch has taken action against a television news anchor and Shrishti Raghuvanshi, cousin of murdered Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, for allegedly making defamatory remarks about the revered Kamakhya temple. During a live broadcast, the anchor claimed that human sacrifice, or “nar bali,” takes place at the temple, while discussing Raja Raghuvanshi’s disappearance in Meghalaya.
Shrishti Raghuvanshi reportedly supported the claim on air.
The police have registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and summoned the duo to appear before the Investigating Officer. The allegations have sparked outrage, with many criticizing the anchor and Shrishti Raghuvanshi for hurting religious sentiments and disturbing public peace.
In a related development, the news channel and Shrishti Raghuvanshi have apologized for their “complete error of judgment” in making the controversial remarks.
