Shillong (Meghalaya), June 6: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has taken Suo Motu cognizance of the unfortunate death of a pregnant woman and her unborn child at Jowai MCH, as reported in the news item “Jowai MCH under fire for pregnant woman’s death.”
The MHRC Secretary has issued a notice to the Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, directing him to conduct an effective inquiry into the matter and submit a detailed inquiry report to the Commission on the scheduled date.
The Commission’s intervention aims to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and ensure accountability in the healthcare system. The case has raised concerns about the quality of care provided at the hospital, and the MHRC’s action is expected to provide clarity on the matter.
