Shillong (Meghalaya), June 6: In a swift operation, the Laitumkhrah Police Station team, led by OC Insp Lily Nongkhlaw, arrested two individuals, Kitbok Thabah (27) and Melvin Tongwah (22), for allegedly looting pedestrians here. The duo was caught near NEC Nongrim Hills on Friday evening while attempting to rob a pedestrian, whom they stabbed with a screwdriver.
According to police, the suspects were riding a black scooty, which was the same vehicle used in multiple reported incidents. Two previous cases were registered against them this year: one on April 10, 2025, near Bawri Mansion, where they allegedly looted ₹19,000, and another on June 3, 2025, near Nagaland House, where they reportedly looted ₹5,000.
Melvin Tongwah had a prior arrest this year for similar offenses around Polo area of the city. The police believe that the duo may have committed more crimes and are appealing to potential victims to come forward. The arrests bring relief to pedestrians who have been targeted in recent weeks.
