Shillong ( Meghalaya) , Mar 30 : The state police here have warned stringent action under the relevant provision of law against those spreading fake news in the social media.
The warning came after several messages in the social media doing the rounds of COVID -19 positive cases in the state .
An official statement from the police said that ione of the rumours that are being circulated is of reports suggesting that the virus may have entered our state and it will start showing itself in this coming week.The other one is of the fake news is of some patients in Nongpoh starting to exhibit Covid-19 symptoms.
“The other rumour is that an individual who stayed in Bangalore with one person who was tested positive for COVID-19 and that the person has returned to Tura but the whereabouts are not known and police are searching for the individual,” the statement said.
Police her have clarified that both the messages are fake and requested the public not to circulate or share the fake messages.
The police officer also appealed to the public that if any information or message is being circulated through social media, to verify first with the official social media account of Meghalaya Police and to not share any rumours or fake news as it will create unnecessary disorder or panic in the state, the statement added.
