Sohra (Meghalaya), July 13: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman concluded her four-day visit to Meghalaya with a visit to the historic Ramakrishna Mission Ashram School in here , paying floral tributes to Swami Ramakrishnanda and Swami Vivekananda. The Minister showed keen interest in the institution’s vocational training facilities, where 100 women are being trained in weaving free of cost.
Established in 1923, the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram School in Sohra is one of the oldest and most respected educational institutions in the Northeast. The school has a long history of producing notable alumni, including prominent politicians, social activists, and professionals. Many of its graduates have gone on to make significant contributions to the region’s development, and the institution is widely regarded as a hub for education and social service.
The school’s vocational training programs, including the weaving training program, aim to empower local women and youth with skills that can help them secure better livelihoods. Sitharaman’s visit to the school highlighted her commitment to understanding the state’s cultural and social fabric, and her interest in initiatives that promote education and vocational training.
