Shillong (Meghalaya), June 3: The upcoming meeting of the North Eastern Council will lay stress on regional cooperation apart from reviewing the works of the various panels set up by the Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
This was more or less of what Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma disclosed on Wednesday.
Talking to reporters, Sangma said Union home minister Amit Shah, DoNER minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, all governors and Chief Ministers of the north eastern Chief Ministers are scheduled to attend the plenary session of the NEC meeting on Thursday.
He said different Northeastern states have been assigned leadership roles in specific sectors such as tourism, youth affairs, trade and related areas.
Sangma said the meeting is also expected to deliberate on broader developmental and policy matters concerning the region, with both the Union Home minister and the DoNER Minister likely to raise additional issues during discussions.
He informed that the Union Health minister is scheduled to visit Meghalaya on June 5. He also said that the Union Finance Minister is expected to visit Shillong early next week.
