Shillong ( Meghalaya ), April 14 : The state Police arrested the founder of a newly-formed militant organisation, “Lawei ba Phyrnai” which sent two threat emails to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma recently.
Two persons were picked up and following questioning one was arrested while the other has been detained .
Police refused to share any details about the identity of the person or the members of the group as it might hamper the investigations . Several incriminating materials including the mobile phone used to send the emails were recovered from the possession of the arrested person .
On April 1 , an email addressed to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya was sent by a group “Lawel ba Phyrnaf’ where the sender claimed to have formed a “terror outfit” comprising of 37“well qualified and talented jobless youth”.
The email further claimed to have “free sponsored arms and ammunition” and threatened to plant bombs in various educational institutions.
Considering the seriousness of the threats, a case was registered in Crime Branch Police Station, here and the matter was. Investigated.
On April 7 , another email was sent by the Publicity Secretary, Lawei ba Phyrnai, where the sender claimed to be a school teacher ‘whose contract was terminated. The sender also placed the “Ist Demand” of the group “Lawel ba Phyrnar’ where it demanded the release of Former HNLC leader Julius Dorphrang fro jail who is presently lodged in a jail failing which the group threatened to blow up a lower primary school.
Due to the new threat by “Lawei ba Phyrnai” a second case was registered at Cyber Crime Wing Police Station and the matter was investigated.
Several other emails were sent by *Lawel ba Phynaf” where the group issued other threats and made several other demands. The emails also claimed that the Organising Secretary of the group is a “tech expert software engineer” and it was futile tracking the members of *Lawei ba Phyrna.”
Immediately Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate both the cases, Police also beefed up the security in various educational institutions due to the threat made by “Lawei ba Phyrnal.”
The Special Investigation Team investigated all angles of the claim made by “Lawel ba Phyrna” and analyzed various technical data, Utilizing the technical expertise of the Cyber Crime Wing of Meghalaya Police, the Special Investigation Team was able to identify one of the accused persons based on technical analysis of several emails sent by “Lawel ba Phyrnai.” The technical analysis made it clear that the same person was responsible for sending emails on behalf of “Lawei ba Phyrnal”
It may be mentioned that recently, the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC ) had come forward for unconditional talks . Both the government and the HNLC have appointed their interlocutors and peace process in moving in a positive direction .
