Aizawl (Mizoram), June 30: A team of birdwatchers has added the White-throated Rock Thrush (Monticola gularis) to the avifauna of India and South Asia. The sighting took place on in Phawngpui National Park, Mizoram.
The team spotted an adult male White-throated Rock Thrush in the Thaltlang community forests. This marks the first recorded sighting of the species in India and South Asia, highlighting the region’s rich biodiversity.
The White-throated Rock Thrush is likely a passage or winter migrant through the eastern parts of Myanmar but is typically unreported due to the region being under-birded. A previous sighting was recorded in Myanmar, approximately 300 km northwest of the current location.
The team, consisting of Dipu Karuthedathu, Christopher J.Z. Lawlor, Joe R. Z. Thanga, and Praveen J, spotted an adult male White-throated Rock Thrush in the Thaltlang community forests.
