Shillong (Meghalaya), June 11: The Sessions court here has granted the police 8 days custody of Sonam Raghuvanshi and the four other accused individuals. The accused, including Sonam’s alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, Anand Kurmi, Akash Rajput, and Vishal Singh Chauhan, were produced before the court earlier today.
The police had sought custody of the accused to further investigate the case and gather more evidence. The court, after hearing the arguments, granted the police 8 days remand, allowing them to interrogate the accused and piece together the events surrounding the crime.
During the custody, the police are expected to question the accused about their alleged roles in the murder and confront them with any evidence collected so far. The police will also likely conduct further investigations, including recreating the crime scene and gathering forensic evidence.
The case has sparked widespread outrage, and the police are under pressure to ensure a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. With the 8 days custody, the police hope to crack the case and uncover any potential conspiracies or motives behind the murder.
The accused were brought to Shillong under tight security, and their medical examination, including pregnancy tests for Sonam, was conducted at Ganesh Das Hospital before being produced in court. The police investigation had revealed that Sonam allegedly plotted the murder due to her extramarital affair with Raj Kushwaha.
