Shillong(Meghalaya), Feb28 : A Legal Awareness Programme on National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) (Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Scheme 2015) cum Health Mela on the theme “Bridging the Gap” was held today at Kamarphil village under Mawsynram C&RD Block.

The programme was organized by the District Legal Services Authority , East Khasi Hills in collaboration with the office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills District which was also attended by E. Kharumnuid, District Session Judge cum Chairman DLSA East Khasi Hills, D. S. Marbaniang, Secretary, DLSA, Smti B. Rani, EM, in charge Development, East Khasi Hills , P. Mukhim, BDO, Mawsynram C&RD Block, Dr. M. Basaiawmoit, DMHO, people, including village elders, teachers and student from Kamarphil and surrounding villages.
Speaking on the occasion, Khan said that the main objectives of the programme is to make the people aware of the various poverty alleviations schemes launched by the various Government departments that is aimed at addressing any dimension of poverty alleviation and to ensure access to basic rights and benefits provided to socially or economically weaker sections of society.
As part of the day long programme, the office of the District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills set up stall in the venue to assist the public in legal aid matters while the team of health officials from the office of DMHO, East Khasi Hills conducted the free medical checkup for the general public and enrolment for beneficiaries under the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme IV.
