Guwahati (Assam), June 5: The BJP-led NDA Government in Assam expanded the cabinet inducting 12 more BJP legislators on Friday.
Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered them the oath of office and secrecy a month after NDA’s decisive victory in the Assembly polls held in April.
Cabinet Ministers Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Ashok Singhal, Bimal Borah, Biswajit Daimary, Nilima Devi, Pijush Hazarika, Ranoj Pegu and Susanta Borgohain, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Krishnendu Paul took oath from the Governor Acharya at a ceremony in Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati where Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma along with many senior BJP, AGP, BPF leaders were present .
Notably, with this, the strength of the Council of Ministers has risen to 17, including Chief Minister Sarma who took oath on May 12 along with Ajanta Neog, Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora and Charan Boro.
On the other hand, normal life remained paralyzed in Sadiya in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district following 12-hour bandh call alleging the non-inclusion of MLA Balin Chetia in the cabinet.
Shops and markers, schools and colleges remained closed under the impact of the bandh.
