Shillong, July 22: The State-Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026 exploded into life on Day 2, with goals, hat-tricks and dominant displays lighting up venues across the city.
Organized by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs under the State Government, the tournament continues to serve as Meghalaya’s biggest launchpad for young footballers aiming for national honors, a vision strongly backed by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
The day’s most emphatic result came in the Under-17 Girls category at Mawlai Madan Heh, where North Liberty Hr. Sec. School, West Jaintia Hills demolished St. Claret Hr. Sec. School 12-0. Elizabeth Thianglai and Baiarbha Nongrum both struck hat-tricks, while Receive Ksoo and Peacefully Pohplet scored twice each. Saphika Pyrtuh and Virginia Pyrtuh also found the net in a relentless attacking show.
The Under-15 Boys matches at SSA Stadium, Polo also produced big scorelines. Umpohliew Jingtip Hr. Sec. School, East Khasi Hills thrashed Baghmara Hr. Sec. School 6-0 with Bomtius Dkhar scoring a brace. Step by Step Sec. School, East Jaintia Hills overcame St. Claret Hr. Sec. School 5-1, led by two quick goals from Mewasolaki Rymbai. North Liberty Hr. Sec. School, West Jaintia Hills eased past Anderson Hr. Sec. School 4-0, with Meshan-I Syntem netting twice. The only draw of the day in this category came between Little Star Hr. Sec. School and Mangsang Hr. Sec. School, which ended 2-2.
At MFA Turf, the Under-17 Boys category saw individual brilliance take center stage. Dapboklang Giri Memorial Sec. School, West Khasi Hills recorded a 6-0 win over Balang Mawlangwir Hr. Sec. School as Iohborlang Lyngkhoi scored four. Myngken Christian Hr. Sec. School, Ri-Bhoi beat Little Star Hr. Sec. School 5-1, with Chanjib Chetry also hitting four. Wapung Sec. School, East Jaintia Hills cruised to a 4-0 victory against Okkapara Sec. School on the back of a hat-trick from Jeffarson Phawa. In a tight contest, Bajengdoba Hr. Sec. School, North Garo Hills edged Amwi Hr. Sec. School 4-3, with Chukam R. Marak scoring twice.
In other Under-17 Girls fixtures, Tyrsad Hr. Sec. School, East Khasi Hills registered a 9-0 win over Rangku Memorial Girls Hr. Sec. School, powered by a hat-trick from Ha-I-sha Myrthong. Lurmangkara Sec. School, West Khasi Hills secured a 4-0 win against Montford Sec. School, with Natasha Kharjahrin scoring three. Lotus Sec. School and Rangthong Christian Hr. Sec. School played out a 0-0 draw.
