Tura (Meghalaya), April 18: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma honoured Garo Hills’ SSLC 2026 toppers at his Tura residence Friday, telling the region’s brightest that success without character is empty.
Felicitating the Class 10 achievers with certificates and tokens, Sangma said their hard work brings pride to their families, Garo Hills, and Meghalaya. He urged them to stay focused, keep aiming higher, and use their knowledge to serve society.
As rain lashed the venue, he turned it into a lesson: “That is how challenges arise in life. What is important is to accept those challenges, work towards overcoming them, never give up, and always remain positive.”
Sangma stressed values over marks. “Nothing will matter—no success will matter in life—if, at the end of the day, you cannot be a good human being. You must always be humble, remain grounded, and never forget your roots,” he told the students. “Even if you are a topper but become arrogant in life, you will not have a fulfilling life.”
He praised parents, teachers, and schools for guiding students through pressure, saying the state’s future depends on shaping children the right way. “It is about supporting children when they need it the most. While course material is important, we must focus on shaping children in the right direction,” he said.
Parents, teachers, and well-wishers at the event thanked the government for backing education and youth development across Garo Hills.
