Shillong (Meghalaya), April 17: Day 5 of the 5th Meghalaya State League belonged to the big hitters and one cool spot-kick, as three teams posted statement wins while Mawphu SC stole three points in stoppage time on Thursday.
Mawlarshong SC were ruthless in Group H at Mawkyrwat, flipping a 1-0 deficit into a 5-1 rout of Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun. Rangkynsaistar Mawsor gave Umdang Pyllun the lead on 30 minutes, but Hopefullness Wanniang and Arkwis Wanniang struck before half-time. Wiwonstar Nongsiej grabbed a second-half brace and Lenny Kravitz Lyngdoh added another to finish it.
Mairang’s return as MSL co-host after nine years drew a packed house, but Langsning FC silenced the home fans with a 4-1 win over Mishon SSCC in Group F. Rikyrshan Warjri’s 3rd-minute opener was the tournament’s fastest yet, before Nelson Rymbai hit two in three minutes. Kyrmenskhem Mukhim and Manbhalang Nongmin completed the comeback.
In Group G at Williamnagar, Janepih Youth SCA cruised 3-0 past Attong Matgrik FC. Goals from Rishembhalang Wanniang, Banteilang Synnia, and Edyson Iawphniaw kept Attong Matgrik winless since MSL 2024.
The rest went down to the wire. Laskein SCSC and Lamin XI SCC traded the lead in a 2-2 Group C draw at Amlarem, with Rithrangmiki Biam and Iomaikyjohn Lamare on target for Laskein and Jowel Khongdup and Genial Lamin replying for Lamin XI. At Wahiajer, Group E saw Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC and Lamyrsiang SCC share points 1-1 after Soniroy Suchiang and Eborki Marsharing netted in the second half.
Shillong’s MFA Ground produced late drama in Group B as Mawphu SC beat Mawlum Tyrsad SCC 1-0. Keeper Damankhraw Khongsit brought down Banman Roy Nongsiej in the box and Iakmenlang Khongjee buried the 90’+4 penalty. In Group D at Khliehriat, Monush Lapang’s 74th-minute strike gave Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC a 1-0 win over Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC.
