Shillong (Meghalaya ), April 13 : Meghalaya reported its first positive case of COVID -19 today.
Official sources confirmed to South Asia Views that a doctor from a private nursing home has confirmed of COVID -19 .
Meanwhile , the doctor has been quarantined and has been kept in isolation and the hospital has been sealed.
The doctor is serving in Bethany Hospital and has been kept in isolation in the hospital itself .
Sources said that though the doctor does have any travel history his children from outside had come over recently .
The authorities are now trying to track the possible persons with whom he came in touch in the recent past .
A press release issued by the Government said , a doctor from Bethany Hospital in Shillong was tested positive for Covid 19.
In line with this, the East Khasi Hills district magistrate has imposed 48 hours curfew in Shillong agglomeration area from 6 am of April 14 with the exception of essential services.
Meanwhile, the residents are requestes to refrain from coming out of their houses to enable the health department officials to do contact tracing and take appropriate remedial measures.
All residents of the State who may have visited Bethany Hospital, Nongrim Hills, Shillong on or after 22nd March 2020 are requested to immediately register themselves by calling 108 or visiting the following link http:/ /rneghalayaonline.gov.in/covid/login.htm.
“The Government is fully prepared to handle the situation and there is no need for the public to have any anxiety on this account,” the statement added .
However, it is once again strongly recommended that all residents of the State must use a protective two-layer cotton cloth material to cover nose, mouth and chin as a mask and follow the hand hygiene, cough etiquette and social distancing protocols.
In view of this development, the Cabinet will be meeting again in the forenoon of 14th April, 2020 to review the decisions that were taken in the Cabinet Meeting that was held today i.e. the 13th April, 2020.
