Tura ( Meghalaya), Feb 16: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched a scathing attack on his BJP’s former ally, the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).
Addressing an election rally in North Tura, he accused the NPP government in the state of being involved in large-scale corruption.
“We are contesting on 60 seats here for the first time, and we expect that the BJP will emerge as a strong party. A lot of development has happened in the entire country since Narendra Modi assumed the office of Prime Minister, however, it is a matter of concern that Meghalaya has been deprived of development.”
Shah claimed that the funds provided by the Central government do not reach the people of Meghalaya because corruption is a big issue here and the BJP wants to wipe out corruption from the state.
That is why the BJP broke the alliance with the NPP and decided to contest on their own in Meghalaya, he said.
“Meghalaya has witnessed unprecedented corruption in the last five years. It tops the chart of the most corrupt state in the country.”
He said that the immense public support that the BJP is getting, it is certain that the Bharatiya Janata Party will emerge as the single largest party in Meghalaya on the day of election results.
Shah said PM Narendra Modi wants the development of Meghalaya, wants to make North East a gateway of development, for this we need your blessings.
He stated that PM Modi has visited the Northeast 51 times and has given a new impetus to the development here. After independence, no other Prime Minister of the country has visited the Northeast so many times. This tells how determined our Prime Minister is for the development of the North East.
“Due to the negligence of the state government of Meghalaya and their mismanagement, the deficit of the state has increased to about Rs 1849 crore in 2022-23. This has happened only because of corruption. The scale of corruption here is not visible anywhere else in the country”.
Shah said Meghalaya Energy Corporation is on the verge of closure. According to an RBI report, Meghalaya is the slowest developing state in the country but BJP is determined to make Meghalaya a corruption-free state.
He added that more than 8,000 members of insurgency groups have surrendered and joined themainstream after the formation of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and appealed to the groups of Meghalaya to come forward and speak to the government and join the development agenda of PM Modi.
