Shillong (Meghalaya), Mar 19: In a dominant display, the Indian men’s national team defeated Maldives 3-0 in a FIFA international friendly at the JN Stadium, marking Shillong’s debut as a venue for international men’s football.
The win was a historic moment for Indian football, with coach Manolo Marquez securing his first victory as the team’s coach. The team also ended a 489-day winless streak. Star player Sunil Chhetri made a triumphant return from international retirement, scoring his 95th goal for the national team.
Rahul Bheke and Liston Colaco sealed the win with two set-piece headers, putting the Blue Tigers firmly in control.
