Shillong (Meghalaya), April 2: Ahmed Hussain, a renowned community leader, cultural icon, and elder brother of Afjal Hussain passed away today, April 2, at NEIGRIMS here due to cardiac arrest and old-age ailments. He was 93.
Ahmed Hussain was an ace photographer and founder of Karuz Studio situated at the tarmac of their ancestral house “Rookwood Cottage” in Police Bazar Shillong.
Hussain hailed from a prominent Hussain Family and contributed significantly to Shillong’s development, particularly in transportation networks. His cultural contributions to the city are also noteworthy. He was an avid patron of art and culture, and his efforts helped promote the rich cultural heritage of the region.
As a founding member of the Manju Smriti Majlish, a cultural organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Bengali culture in Meghalaya, Hussain played a pivotal role in organizing cultural events, festivals, and programs that brought together people from diverse backgrounds.
His passing leaves a void in the cultural landscape of Shillong, and he will be deeply missed by the community. The funeral procession will take place on April 3, 2025, between 1:30 pm to 2 pm from his Kachari Road residence.
